What if my student has special dietary needs?
Many current students have dietary restrictions. Menu items at the Restaurants at Ben Franklin are prepared using recipes and ingredients that do not contain tree nuts or peanuts but we cannot control exposure to tree nuts or peanuts in the manufacturing process. Coconut is used in plant-based dishes at Trellis.
Menu items at the Restaurants at Ben Franklin are prepared using recipes and ingredients that do not contain tree nuts or peanuts. All RBF recipes are prepared in a facility that also prepares recipes with allergens such as soy, egg, fish, shellfish, wheat and gluten. Please be advised that we cannot control exposure to food allergens or gluten by food manufacturers or our suppliers.
Our new station called Simple Servings is Sodexo’s innovative solution to proactively address most of the ingredients that account for 90% of all food-allergy reactions: milk, eggs, wheat, soy, shellfish, peanuts, and tree nuts. The 8th FDA specified allergen, fin fish, is included in the offer. Simple Servings also recognizes the current skyrocketing demand for gluten-free foods, which certain students may require out of medical necessity (Celiac disease) or simply by choice. Simple Servings also appeals to students who prefer plain and simple foods and those with other health-related dietary concerns, such as Type I diabetes.
With Simple Servings, students can comply with food allergy or other dietary concerns without feeling singled out. They won’t have to go off campus for their meals or miss out on dining with their friends while waiting for the chef to specially prepared their meals. All foods offered at the Simple Serving station are naturally free of milk, eggs, wheat, soy, shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts and gluten. Straightforward preparation techniques assure transparency of ingredients, and help student prepare to be responsible for their own shopping and cooking in future. The lunch and dinner menu change daily and include varied protein options: fish, beef, pork, chicken and turkey. All side dishes are vegan, containing no milk, eggs, or meat products.
KIVO (Kosher, International, Vegan, Organic) is a Star K certified kosher and Halal-certified dining facility. Every dining location on campus offers vegetarian and vegan options all denoted with special icons on our menus.
It is also helpful to note that our menus are posted for each week under the "Dining Near Me" tabs right next to the individual locations on our website. Students can also access our menus complete with ingredients, allergy content, and nutritional content by using the BiteU app, which you can sign up for here.

Sick Meal Request Form
We're sorry that you're not feeling well! If you are ill, we encourage you to stay in and rest rather than coming into our dining facilities. This will help prevent the spread of illnesses. We are happy to provide you with a sick meal* which you can charge to your dining account, and have a friend pick up for you.
We give you or the person picking up the request for you a to-go container so that you or they can get what you want for your meal from what is offered.

Who is required to be on a meal plan?
All first-year students are required to be on the All-Access Plan. Sophomore students are required to purchase a 15 Meals Per Week Plan or upgrade to the All-Access Meal Plan. Commuting students are not required to purchase a meal plan. Please contact College House Administration to determine if a student is considered a commuter.
A meal plan is required for students living in traditional residence halls. Students in Roschel Apartments are exempt.
Juniors and Seniors who are living on-campus are required to take the 15 Meals Per Week Plan. Students living in a theme house with a kitchen are required to take the 10 Meals Per Week Plan. All Block Plans are available to Juniors and Seniors living off-campus only.
How does the meal plan work?
At The Restaurants at Ben Franklin = 1 Meal Swipe, All You Can Eat. At Retail Locations (The Grill Off the Green,Mein Bowl,Handcrafted,The Diplomatic Cafe,Flavors at LS&P) = 1 Meal Swipe for a DipDeal or Flex Points, Cash, or Credit Cards for anything else.
Difference between Block Plans and Meals Per Week
Block Plans consist of the number of meal swipes each student has for the entire semester. If a student has the 100 Meal Block Plan, this means that they have a total of 100 meal swipes for the entire semester to use from the beginning of the semester until the end of the semester. Meal plan swipes do not roll over between semesters. Block Plans are for Juniors & Seniors living off-campus only.
Meals Per Week plans renew every Friday morning. A student with a 15 Meals Per Week plan has a total of 15 meal swipes from Friday morning until Thursday evening. The number of meals per week being provided will be prorated for weeks with less than 7 days due to semester or Holiday breaks.
On the All-Access Plan only 14 meal exchange swipes are available to use in retail locations per week (Friday-Thursday); All other plans have 10 meal exchanges for use per week (Friday-Thursday). All meal swipes grant access to the Restaurants at Ben-Franklin, including unlimited access on the All-Access Plan.
How do Flex Points work?
Each meal plan has flex points included with their plan, regardless of a block plan or a meals per week plan. Flex dollars are considered additional money to be used in addition to meal swipes as needed, or in place of when making smaller purchases.
An example of a good use of flex points is purchasing a coffee or a snack at our retail locations instead of using an entire meal swipe for a single item. Flex points are also used when upgrading or adding an item to a dip deal purchase at retail locations.
Dip deals are often a meal with a drink combo that a student can purchase for a single meal swipe. If the student wishes to upgrade their drink (ie. a milkshake instead of a soda) or a student wishes to get an additional side/add a side not included in the dip deal and the difference in cost will be covered by the student's flex points.
Leftover flex points at the end of the fall semester will roll over to the spring semester for use. Leftover flex points at the end of the spring semester do not roll over to the new fall semester.
What if my student has meals left over at the end of the semester?
Meals left over at the end of either Fall or Spring semester will be forfeited.
How does my student sign up for a meal plan?
All first-year students are required to be on the All-Access Plan plan. Sophomore students are required to purchase a 15 meal a week plan or the All-Access Plan. Juniors and seniors living in traditional residence halls are required to be on a 15 meal a week plan. All other Juniors, Seniors and Commuters have additional options available. Students who want to add, delete, or change a meal plan must contact Lori Foust at email.
What if my student runs out of meals?
Rechargeable meals are available in 5, 10 & 15 meal increments by contacting Student Accounts at (717) 358-4213 or via email at studentaccounts@fandm.edu. This applies to block plans only.

Can I use my meal swipes for classmates or friends?
No, you can not. The meal plans do not have guest swipes and you are not allowed to use your meal plan swipes for classmates or friends. They are welcome to purchase meal plans of their own or pay the community price for a lunch in the dining hall with cash or a debit/credit card.

DipDeals are menu items in our retail locations that are grouped together (i.e. combo meals, meal deals) that are purchased for JUST ONE SWIPE of your meal plan.
Does Sodexo Campus Dining hire students?
Absolutely! A variety of positions are open to students such as, student intern, Catering wait staff and more. We are not associated with the college or any work-study programs.
